The Shinetsu Five Mountains Trail Running Race is made possible by the passionate support of many volunteers who love the Shinetsu region.
A Volunteer Leader is someone who leads and coordinates the volunteers in their assigned section with pride, passion, and a humble attitude.

How to Apply

Applications open from April 1 (Wed) via the application form below.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Aged 20 or older (must reside in Japan)
  • Physically capable of standing for extended periods and carrying heavy items
  • Must hold a standard driver’s license (able to drive a van)
  • Someone who understands volunteer culture and is dedicated to supporting the Shinetsu Five Mountains Trail Running Race as a leader

Activities & Schedule

    Leader of the assigned course marshaling section
    Approximately 20 hours during September 21 (Mon) – 23 (Wed), 2026 (with breaks and nap time)

Selection Process

First Round (Essay Submission) — 1,200 to 2,000 characters

Volunteer Leader Training & Second Round
(First round qualifiers only)

  • Briefing on operations and instruction manuals (via online meeting in advance)
  • On-site training at the assigned section (conducted as a day trip)

Benefits

  • A Volunteer Leader commemorative gift (Patagonia rain jacket) will be provided.
  • Free attendance at the awards ceremony.
  • Meals will be provided during the race period (through the awards ceremony).
  • For those traveling from afar, accommodation at a pension or hotel will be arranged free of charge for the 1st night (some leaders begin their shift on Saturday the 13th evening and stay afterward) and 2nd night.
  • Those who wish will receive priority entry for next year’s Shinetsu Five Mountains Trail Running Race (accommodation required; either 100 mile or 110km). Leaders who serve for two consecutive years and wish to do so will receive priority entry with free registration for the following year’s race (accommodation required; either 100 mile or 110km).

Other Information

  • Transportation costs for the Volunteer Leader training/second round selection and race day travel to the venue will be reimbursed.
  • Transportation during the race period will be arranged by the organizers.
  • Free parking will be available during the race period.
